1080P/24FPS

The best possible HDTV resolution is 1080p, or to be precise, 1920 x 1080p high-definition video. That’s the level of performance home theatre fans have been waiting for, and the BDP-LX70A provides it. But this player goes even further by also providing an output at 24 fps, which is the same frame rate at which films are shown in movie theatres. So now you can enjoy that smooth, realistic movie experience in your own home.

To realize the 24 fps output, we had to overcome the problem of different frame rates. PAL video uses a frame rate of 25 fps, which is 4% higher than 24 fps, meaning that without compensation, the video would run 4% faster. Moreover, NTSC video uses 30 fps, so to compensate for this difference, a method called 2-3 pulldown, which inserts extra picture fields, has to be used. Obviously, maintaining the original 24 fps is the best possible method of reproducing films, and this is precisely what can be achieved with Pioneer’s BDP-LX70A. As shown in the illustration above, after a film has been shot, it can be transferred in 1080p/24 fps format to a Blu-ray Disc. The player can then play the disk and output the film to a plasma display without changing the format. As a result, you see the film exactly as the director intended you to see it.
